A podcast for older adults, dedicated to meaningful topics and motivating those who believe that getting older is a chance to keep growing.
You Still Have Time
Episode 13 - Season Wrap Up
This episode entitled “Season Wrap Up” is a reflective recap marking the end of the podcast's first season. We look back on six months since starting the show in June, summarizing what we’ve learned, the topics we’ve covered, and our experiences building a community.
We discuss memorable episodes—such as ones about nostalgia (“Remember the Time”), staying active in retirement (“Staying Engaged”), and avoiding scams that target older adults. Much of the conversation emphasizes our mission: creating content for older listeners often overlooked by mainstream media.

Hello and welcome to You Still Have Time. We're your host, I'm Hope. And I'm Harold. And we welcome you to an episode that we're calling the Wrap Up. Has nothing to do with Christmas gifts. We are looking back at our first half year of You Still Have Time episodes. And you know, we're gonna talk about some of the things we've discovered, some of the things we've learned.
SPEAKER_00:I don't know how much we've actually learned, but well, you know, I think this episode will probably probably be a little different because we're just going to sort of go over what took place this year. I know if you've been with us since the beginning, you know how we came to the idea of having this podcast. So this is uh sort of a culmination of season one. We're calling it season one because I guess we're just tired. We need a break.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, we started this in June of this year with a a very short intro um piece. And since then we've done 12 episodes, and it's not been the easiest journey. It's been fun a lot of times, and we've learned a lot about a lot of different things. But uh yeah, I think we need just a short break for the holidays.
SPEAKER_00:Uh for for those of you who may have just joined us uh at the end of our trip, uh, as Hope said, we started in June, and uh that was just basically an intro. Then we did a basic description of who we are. We call that one who, why, and what. And then we went into some topics like remember the time. I think we talked about what people of a certain age sort of reflect on very often, things that happened in the past. We talked about staying engaged, how if you are retired, if you are of a little older, one of the components of being uh being active is just being engaged, being engaged with your community, being engaged with, you know, family. Family. Uh we talked about scams. You you know, if you are home during the day, there are people who are trying to pick your pockets, who are trying to uh take advantage of us. And so we basically talk s about those types of things.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, we we had the the the toughest time that we've had, I think, is finding episodes that we think might be um interesting to our audience. And let me stop here because we did not, I I wanted yeah, I think we wanted to start this episode by thanking those of you who have been listening. And we know that there are a few of you who who listen regularly, and we especially want to offer our gratitude to you. But for those of you who may be joining us for the first time, uh, we've been trying to put together episodes concerning topics that are ignored generally because they're of interest or concern to an older population. And if you are in that population, you know that there's not a lot of stuff that's geared to us, uh, except for pharmaceutical ads, uh, or hearing aid ads or whatever, um, you know, walk-in bathtubs, whatever it is. Uh, but we have interests that are beyond those things. Of course, those things are important for many of us, but we have other interests as well. And it was our hope that this podcast would talk about some of those things. And I think, you know, sometimes we have, and and they've been of interest to you, and sometimes I don't know, maybe we didn't hit the mark.
SPEAKER_00:Well, I think that wope, I think you just said it that we've we've I don't say begged, but we've asked often for your feedback because we want to make this podcast a part of a community. We want you to be involved with us. And quite frankly, we haven't received over this last six months, season one, we haven't received a lot of feedback from our listeners. And uh so we sort of go with what we think you might be interested in, but maybe we've missed a mark. So so so we really would really I I don't I know we probably sound like a broken record, but please we've we've provided a number of different ways for you to reach us. And um I I just wish you would contact us so that we know what you want.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, wherever you listen to your podcasts, right below, I guess, where the play button is, uh there's you know, there's information how to how to leave a uh a a message.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, how to message us, how to you can go through our website. There's something called SpeakPipe. There's a link to something called SpeakPipe, which allows you to leave a 90-second uh message.
SPEAKER_00:Voicemail message, right?
SPEAKER_01:Voicemail message. However, you feel comfortable doing it, we would love to hear from you. We would love to hear not only your feedback about what you think is good or bad or so-so or boring or interesting, whatever. Uh, but we'd also like some suggestions about the things that you might want to hear in the future. We do plan to continue. We'll be back in January. And but we really I I guess the the bottom line is there's a lot of work that goes into producing one of these. And and it has been an enjoyable process for the most part, but like everything anyone does, you you'd like to know that you know you're not doing it in vain, and that there are other people out there who you know will support you, will are interested in in what you have to say. And we have some ideas about how to make some changes, nothing major uh changes in in the next year, but in season two. I like that.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, season two. It makes it sound official. Sounds so professional.
SPEAKER_01:It sounds so professional.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:You know, we don't make money on this, we're not sponsored by anyone. We're not looking to be sponsored.
SPEAKER_00:If somebody wants to sponsor us, we would be I just said we're not looking to be sponsored. No, but if somebody, if someone really, you know, you know, if they want to give me a call.
SPEAKER_01:But but we really have to, if if if that were to happen, they say, and how many regular listeners do you have? And what would your answer to that be, Harold?
SPEAKER_00:Well, as funny you mention that. I don't I don't know if any of you are familiar with the whole process with podcasts, but you have a podcast.
SPEAKER_01:Wait, wait, wait, wait, stop. How many of you are familiar with the problems? One of the problems we've been having is that people don't even know what a podcast is. And now you can edit it. I think and leave it in. I think it's funny.
SPEAKER_00:I think you we didn't know what was with the podcast. Okay, so now the okay. So anyway, uh on our podcast platform, it enables us to determine to see where our listeners are. Now, as you would imagine. And how many there are. And how many there are, and how many downloads there are. So as you would imagine, we've got 89% of our uh uh listeners or downloads are from the United States. But, but, and this is a surprise to us, we have listeners in Singapore. And by the way, if that is you, if you're in Singapore, please reach out to us. We want to know who you are. Right, because we want to know why someone in Singapore is listening to us. Okay, we have listeners in Canada. I think I know who that is.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, there's one person?
SPEAKER_00:No, but I only see a couple of downloads and I have a feeling who that is. Really? Okay, okay, the Philippines. Okay, Portugal. And like, who are these people? Please, if that is you, please let us know who you are and why you have decided to listen to our podcast. Maybe we could have you order an episode.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, that would be it would really be great. Uh I mean, we have people, I don't know who the three people in San Diego, the three downloads in San Diego. I mean, we probably know somebody in San Diego, but but yeah, it's it's in Montreal.
SPEAKER_00:Right. And and you know what? We don't we we got zero in Africa. Come on, you Africans. Now, y'all need to be listening to us.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, Oceania too.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, nobody, nobody.
SPEAKER_01:Hello, mates. Listen to us.
SPEAKER_00:Nobody in South America. What's wrong with you folks?
SPEAKER_01:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Vietnam, we need you. We need all the folks that we can we we we so anyway, but um.
SPEAKER_01:We're having we're having a good time. Yeah, this is a wrap-up. But like I said, this is a wrap-up.
SPEAKER_00:This is not, you know, as scripted and structured. This is not scripted. Well, yeah, and you probably, if you've been listening to our podcast in the past, you probably say, you mean that those were scripted? Those are structured, but this is even less. But with you know, in in all seriousness, um we do work hard at this. We try to have fun, but we also try to provide you with information that you might think you might need or you might want that will will help you.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. And so uh for next season, season two, I feel like we're episodic TV. For season two, we're going to try our best to talk about things that will attract more interest. And what we ask of you is if you found any of our episodes interesting, please share them with people you know. Say, did you know this? And here's where you can listen to that. Hey, I just had this uh great idea. You could have a listening party, or if you're in your car taking a trip, turn on, you know, your podcast, turn on you still have time, and and you know, you and your trip mates can can listen to it and discuss and and talk about some of the things that uh the episode, you know, has made you aware of or made you think about. So that's kind of it. It's it's December, it's it's holiday time, and so for the next few weeks we're gonna take a little time off and regroup.
SPEAKER_00:And we certainly want to wish you, all of you, and your families, the best uh holiday wishes.
SPEAKER_01:Merry Christmas, happy Kwanzaa, happy Hanukkah, happy Hanukkah, happy new year, of course. Right. Um in 2026, uh, one of the topics I want to discuss in January is resolutions and the kind of resolutions people make at our age, because we do believe that you still have time to fulfill some of those resolutions.
SPEAKER_00:And just one thing I want to say, and um this has been a tough year for us. Not just for Hope and I, but for Americans. I don't know Especially for those of you who for the world, really. Right, but especially for Americans. And if you are of a certain age, we've been through tough times before, and we will get through this. Believe me, we will get through this.
SPEAKER_01:So because we still have time to do that.
SPEAKER_00:Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:We still have time. I'm getting all emotional. Why am I getting emotional? Thanks, Sarah, for making me tear up.
SPEAKER_00:Anyway. I think uh is that about it? I think that's it.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, so but yes, best to everyone. See you in 2026, God willing. And um, yeah, this is give, give you still have time as a gift to someone.
unknown:How's that?
SPEAKER_01:Make make you still have time listening, your resolution, whatever. Anyway, thank you and thank you and thank you.
SPEAKER_00:Happy New Year. See you in 2026.
SPEAKER_01:Bye.
SPEAKER_00:Bye bye.
